Logz.io provides an intelligent and scalable machine data analytics platform built on ELK and Grafana. Designed for monitoring modern applications, Logz.io combines cloud-native simplicity and scalability with crowdsourced artificial intelligence (AI) to help engineers identify critical issues before they occur and empower them to monitor, troubleshoot and secure mission-critical applications using one unified platform.
The company was founded by two engineers who were frustrated with the challenges of using open source software across distributed systems at cloud scale. The open source tools they were using took too much effort to maintain, did not integrate with many other systems and were not well suited for modern software requirements. Their passion was to empower engineers to focus on creating better, more innovative software rather than dealing with the frustration of managing the open source tools needed for success.
Achieving this goal meant building a cloud-native platform-as-a-service built on the most popular open source projects, such as ELK Stack and Grafana, that could scale easily, work with modern technologies like containers and microservices, and integrate with current DevOps tools like Kubernetes and AWS. It also meant integrating additional features typically found in commercial alternatives such as alerts, machine learning, security and regulatory compliance. But, most of all, it meant putting it all together the way engineers like to work by providing easy to use interfaces, reliable performance, and on-demand, 24×7 chat support.
Logz.io was co-founded in 2014 by Check Point alumnus Tomer Levy, CEO; and Asaf Yigal, VP of Product. Before founding Logz.io, Tomer co-founded and was the CTO of Intigua, a company that developed innovative, Docker-like containers designed for large enterprises. Prior to Intigua, Tomer spent six years at CheckPoint, where he led its Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) product from concept to market, generating $100 million in revenues in the second year. Tomer has an M.B.A from Tel Aviv University and a B.A. in computer science and is an enthusiastic kitesurfer.
Asaf co-founded Currensee, a social-trading platform, which was later acquired by OANDA in 2013. Prior to Currensee, Asaf held executive roles at Akorri, developing an end to end performance monitoring platform, and developing a storage resource management platform at Onaro. Both Akorri and Onaro were acquired by NetApp. Prior to Onaro, Asaf headed a research team in the Israeli Navy, taking an artificial intelligence system to military deployment. Asaf holds a B.S. from the Technion and is an Instrument-rated private pilot.
Logz.io developed a set of innovative analytics technologies that combine machine learning, crowdsourcing and anomaly detection to help engineers overcome the "needle in the haystack" problem.
Cognitive Insights provides a unique, patented approach for extracting important insights from machine data. Using advanced machine learning and crowdsourcing, this technology identifies critical events hiding in terabytes of data by correlating them with online conversations. These events are contextualized and enriched with actionable information to help streamline investigation and troubleshooting.
Application Insights uses machine learning and anomaly detection to identify new exceptions and errors being thrown by applications and reveals these events together with actionable information.
The insights discovered by Logz.io can be correlated with changes made in the user's environment such as new code deployments or updates. This helps to understand the overall context in which these events took place to aid faster mitigation.
Tomer believes that AI and Machine learning will help businesses gain a better understanding of the data they produce. For the past few years, a growing number of organizations have understood the importance of Big Data for business intelligence, marketing, sales, and IT, but have found that data alone cannot always solve their problems. Instead, the employees charged with managing data are bombarded with terabytes of information, some of which has relevance, while most of which is simply noise. "Using machine learning, intelligent machines will be able to learn which data is valuable and even provide actionable next steps by contextualizing the data. This way, users learn not only which data matters, but what this data means and which actions should be taken to resolve various problems. As a result, businesses will improve the decision-making process and become more accurate, effective, and resilient," he said.
Logz.io is the only open source-based tool to unify monitoring, troubleshooting, and security into one flexible platform. As a customer-focused organization, the company is dedicated to enhancing and improving the open source tools engineers like to use, in order to make them scalable and enterprise-ready. Engineers love to use open source technologies like ELK stack and Grafana because they are universally available, adaptable and widely used by other engineers across the world. However, no one loves the frustration of deploying, maintaining and scaling the infrastructure behind them and too often, performance and security limitations prevent using open source for mission-critical applications. Logz.io empowers engineers from organizations such as Capital One, Accenture, CNN, British Airways and more to use the open source tools they love with the scale, flexibility, and availability they need.
Additionally, its advanced AI-powered analytics enables teams to easily identify the needle-in-the-haystack in log data so users can gain important insights and resolve errors before they affect customers.
With the mission of solving data challenges, Logz.io has been recognized in many achievements and awards. The company has deployed an advanced security-focused architecture and has received PCI-1, SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, ISO27001 and GDPR security compliance and certifications.
Logz.io was named as Gartner "Cool Vendors in Performance Analysis, AIOps Focus" in 2018. The company was also in the top 100 of the SaaS 1000 list and named one of Israel's Top Startups by TheMarker receiving #39 position in the list.
In 2017, Logz.io was named one of Fortune Magazine's "50 Companies Leading the AI Revolution" as well as Network World's "5 Open Source Companies to Watch". VentureBeat also named the company as one of "113 Enterprise AI Companies to know" and Forbes covered their combination of technology and market trends.
Since founding Logz.io four years ago as the industry is rapidly evolving. With new technologies constantly being introduced, its product must adapt to an ever-changing landscape. For this reason, the company works on various integrations to ensure IT departments across the globe are able to easily take advantage of its product. Some of its integrations include AWS, Kubernetes, and more.
Logz.io ingests and processes hundreds of TBs of data per day from its customers. Supporting ever-growing volumes of data requires a huge engineering effort, and the company has designed an elaborate architecture that is scalable, stable and resilient.
Since Logz.io began in 2014, the company has grown to become an integral part of over 600 organizations worldwide. Tomer expects this number to grow exponentially in the upcoming year and believes that the growth in machine-generated data and the growing popularity of open source is a key driver of its adoption. Looking at its customers' feedback, Logz.io learned that its product fits a real need in the DevOps industry. The company has identified that engineers have the desire to build and innovate their products.
While engineers are tasked with sifting through a tremendous amount of data, they are largely occupied with maintaining the infrastructure they are working on. That's why the industry is moving towards more AI and automation so engineers can free themselves from this burden and work on more meaningful and innovative projects. Logz.io will help make this possible by continuing to push boundaries in machine learning and integrating this technology into its open source-based monitoring, troubleshooting, and security solution.
