In an ongoing attempt to improve user experience, Meta Platforms-owned WhatsApp plans to launch a new feature that will allow users to send messages to third-party applications such as Signal and Telegram. WABetaInfo published the much-anticipated upgrade, version 2.24.6.2.
WhatsApp's unique initiative complies with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which emphasizes chat interoperability to promote seamless communication across several platforms. WhatsApp is working on a feature of cross-app messaging that will let users send messages to other social media platform apps like Signal or Telegram. This is in response to the DMA, which requires chat interoperability. The feature is in beta testing for Android 2.24.5.18. The latest beta update 2.24.5.20 shows that WhatsApp is developing a chat info screen for third-party chats.
WABetaInfo released a screenshot of the conversation info panel, which includes important information. Considering the absence of profile names and images in third-party discussions, WhatsApp wants to display the default profile photo with the name of the third-party app linked with the chat. Users will be able to pick which applications may connect to their WhatsApp account, delivering a more personalized experience.
Certain restrictions will apply to third-party talks within WhatsApp. Notably, group conversations including third-party applications and calls made via these apps will not be enabled. Communication with third-party conversations may initially be restricted to text messages, with the possibility for growth in future releases. Customers would have the opportunity to manually activate the interoperability service, making it an optional feature.
WhatsApp is also working on a new privacy feature that would ban users from capturing screenshots of others' profile images. The beta version, which is accessible on the Google Play Store, has a message that shows when attempting to capture a screenshot, stating, 'Can't take a screenshot due to app limitations.' While now only available to a restricted group of beta testers, this privacy feature is likely to be made available to all users over the next weeks.
