Data Center Facilities Technician, Controls, Google

Google Data Center Facilities Technician controls electrical systems and mechanical systems and HVAC systems through his operational and maintenance duties. The technician needs to monitor PLC and SCADA controls and repair them while he provides support for equipment integration and manages power outages and safety compliance and operational efficiency improvements and works with contractors and different teams to ensure continuous data center operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in data center systems and equipment.

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs, SCADA, HVAC, and access control systems.

  • Perform system administration, manage alarms, and support cybersecurity and technical issue resolution.

  • Prepare and execute SOPs, respond to work requests, and provide technical guidance.

  • Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new controls equipment into facility infrastructure.

  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance, optimize operational efficiency, and manage outages effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of experience in controls and automation within industrial or commercial facilities (data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical plants, semiconductor fabs, refineries, power plants).

  • Ability to perform material handling tasks including lifting, carrying, or moving up to 50 lbs of equipment.

  • Ability to use OSHA standard safety equipment (work platforms, ladders, step stools, PPE like safety harnesses).

  • Ability to work non-standard hours and rotations/shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry-standard certifications related to system administration (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Certified Windows or Linux system administrator).

  • 5 years of experience in controls/automation or construction/technical environment.

  • Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, relays, and troubleshooting using hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages.

  • Ability to communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades on data center systems.
