iPhone 18 Pro Max Could Get Exclusive Variable Aperture Camera: Leak

According to a Weibo post by tipster Ice Universe (translated from Chinese), Apple could make the variable aperture camera exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. While the tipster stopped short of revealing additional details about the component, it was suggested that its the sensor's physical size could be one of the reasons why it may only be accommodated on Apple's larger Pro model. The tech giant will reportedly only offer top-tier imaging in a handset that could weigh as much as a “brick”, the tipster added. This suggests that the purported smartphone could be heavier than its predecessor, with the inclusion of the variable aperture camera resulting in the trade-off.

iPhone 18 Pro May Get Apple's First 2nm Chip: What the A20 Pro Could Change

Citing supply chain sources, tipster “Fixed-focus digital cameras” (translated from Chinese) has shared new details in a post on Weibo regarding the next-generation Apple Silicon chipset, which is expected to power the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra, the company's first book-style foldable. The leaker claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant's unreleased A20 Pro chipset will be the first SoC to be fabricated using TSMC's 2nm process. The leaker claims that the iPhone 18 Pro's A20 Pro chipset will deliver significantly better performance than last year's A19 Pro SoC, which powers the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to the tipster, the chipset will provide an 18 percent performance enhancement, along with a power consumption reduction of about 30 percent.

iPhone 18 Pro Could Cost More in India

Current reports suggest the base iPhone 18 Pro could start at around Rs 1,39,900 in India, compared with Rs 1,34,900 for the iPhone 17 Pro. Other estimates suggest the increase could be bigger, with the price potentially rising by Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000, depending on the model and storage. The 256GB iPhone 18 Pro is also tipped to cost around Rs 1,44,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max could start at around Rs 1,54,900.

Will Buyers Get Standard iPhone 18 This Year?

The standard iPhone 18 is not expected to launch alongside the Pro models. Instead, Apple is reportedly targeting spring 2027 for the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. The regular iPhone 18 is expected to use the A20 chip, receive more RAM and feature a smaller Dynamic Island. It could also get Apple's C2 modem, while Apple may make some display-related compromises to control costs.

For now, the iPhone 18 Pro remains the model to watch for Apple's September 2026 event. The final launch date, pricing, specifications and availability should become clear when Apple officially announces its next-generation iPhone lineup.

When Will iPhone Series Launch Event Take Place?

Apple's iPhone launch events have typically taken place on the first Tuesday or Wednesday in September, following the Labour Day holiday in the US. This schedule apparently gives the tech giant enough time to begin sales by mid-month, recognize revenue before the end of the quarter, and stock retail channels ahead of the crucial holiday shopping season.

Based on this launch pattern, September 8 is seen as one of the likely dates for Apple's 2026 iPhone launch event. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, however, suggested September 9 as another possibility. This year, Labour Day will be held on September 7 in the US, which means September 9 could also be a probable option for the launch event, since doing so would reportedly provide an additional travel day for attendees and employees before the hardware showcase.

In 2022, the Cupertino-based tech giant announced its iPhone 14 launch event on August 24, and the event took place on September 7. Apple launched the iPhone 15 on September 12, 14 days after the August 29 announcement. Similarly, Apple announced the iPhone 16 series launch event on August 26 and held it on September 9, 2025.

Apple’s September event could be far bigger than an iPhone showcase. According to 9to5Mac, Apple is preparing more than 10 products for launch this fall, with most expected to arrive around the September event. Beyond the iPhone lineup, the reported products include Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, new AirPods, a new Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini 2 and the HomePad smart-home hub. A revamped iPad mini and other home products could also follow later. The lineup signals a broad push across wearables, entertainment and smart-home devices, potentially making this one of Apple's busiest product seasons in years.
