Saurabh Gupta is the CEO and Co-Founder of VeriSmart Ai. He is a serial entrepreneur with two successful exits in past and the last one got acquired by the Times group. He has been working all through process automation and AI since 2008 when the first exposure came with the Autonomous Vehicle Challenge of DARPA Labs (US) where the team represented India and got into 25 final participating teams. It is a hugely prestigious event that leads to autonomous vehicle rage across the globe from Google, Tesla, Wymo, and more.
Later on, Saurabh worked with GMR and BCG that offered valuable and very much required corporate experience in AI and Electric Vehicle (EV) domain respectively. This experience led him to become a mentor at EESL while having the confidence to start a venture called Ticnpic, a visual discovery and video commerce platform in 2015. It has created waves at that time, but being ahead of its time, it took a long learning curve for the entire market to adopt. Presently, Saurabh is working for Verismart Ai (Metawing Technology, Inc.), which works on privacy-compliant data sharing. The team works on AI and blockchain technology to enable enterprises for automated onboarding processes as per regulatory guidelines as well as protect their data by applying different layers of AI, data anonymization, data analytics for zero-knowledge proof, and more for better user data access management and control strengthening the data privacy. Verismart Ai has acquired an AI conversational company to enhance its services.
Saurabh has been working in AI, computer vision, and process automation since 2008 with the participation of Autonomous Vehicle at DARPA Labs (US) that provided a very large exposure to global tech and how AI is going to shape up for the future.
He says that while working with BCG for technical consulting of the electric vehicle production unit, provided the team not only had a great opportunity to undergo the entire production cycle and involved process automation steps but also created a lot of referrals in the market for the work accomplished.
As an entrepreneur with the first venture, the team was working on rapid prototyping, 3D scanning, and AI-based product related to autonomous vehicles and this gave him a lot of exposure on individual grounds, claims Saurabh. He adds that he has come across more than 79 OEMs in the automobile sector and ran Asia's biggest Autotech educational platform. Being a nodal speaker at many such panel discussions put Saurabh across a variety of audiences who really want to step into the domain. At that time, people were really directionless and needed hand-holding guidance for the same back in 2012.
Ticnpic visual commerce/video commerce: Saurabh reveals that the venture has put on a whole new horizon testing capabilities for computer vision or deep vision in terms of identification of apparel and other objects within the video or matching it to the e-commerce platforms across the web. He adds that it has attained very significant tractions and has worked with brands like Jabong, Shopclues, Homeshop 18, and more. And the same tech creates the augmentation on a real person to identify the exact fit while eradicating the boundaries between the real world and the virtual world. As the Founder of this venture, Saurabh says that he has extensively worked with the engineering and product team to deliver one of the best techs even so far today, where Meesho, Coutloot, and Roposo were the competitors in that division.
Saurabh presumes that the tech field has always been challenging and leaves one with a very vast scope of future opportunity and improvisation. He adds that initially, when the team started working in the division, they were more dependent on MATLAB and other languages that were not very developer-friendly, Compilation takes hours, infrastructure, and computes were not optimum enough to handle the AI code itself. Over time, based on the advent of faster and smarter hardware (Intel, CISCO, Nvidia, Dell) and other AI languages like R, Python, wolfram, Haskell, and others, the domain has become developer-friendly.
Saurabh mentions that getting software engineers, working with the core AI discipline, was very much tough back in 2014. Thus, the team used to spare more than six months of their advanced training and make their skill set optimum enough to accept the engineering challenges in computer vision and AI. When it stepped into deep learning, in-depth image frames recognition, and object identification part, the most critical role of precision is to be accepted in the real world.
Saurabh states that before jumping into the product or solution, the main focus and the most critical one to look for is what problem needs to be solved and how long will this impact the user's life. He highlights that AI has been used in almost all strata of the day-to-day life sphere, whether it may be healthcare, financial, insurance, real estate, surveillance, logistics, and every other domain. AI has been introduced big time as an augmentation layer of making processes smarter, faster, and least human dependent.
According to Saurabh, disruptive technologies like AI, big data, and cloud computing have already created a serious impact over the last half a decade on a massive level. These technologies have got imbibe with the mainstream businesses across sectors including healthcare, BFSI, insurance, and retail. He claims that as of today, the BOB business of every organization is to capture the user touch point and corresponding meta and alternative data to create more different avenues of business. It also helps to streamline their exiting process and make it more efficient and auto-scale. These technologies are helping them achieve it. Many new ventures have entered into the domain to compliment the same and be technology arm for multiple sectors in form of fintech, agritech, and more.
Saurabh states that there are no specific attributes that leaders should follow since many of the presents AI influencers do not have development knowledge of the domain. They are experts in their respective fields like healthcare, financial tech, and more, and they are very clear on multiple challenges of operations, business development, and another required niche.
