The ongoing Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic is showing no signs of slowing down and is now one of the largest threats to the mankind and the global economy.
The virus first reported in Wuhan last year in December has now spread to over 180 countries and territories and India is one of them grappling under the infection. The current Covid-19 cases in India as of 02nd April 2020 stands at 1,828 out of which 41 people have already died. To slow the spread of the virus, the Indian government has implemented a complete lockdown of 21 days across the country.
Considering the current situation, Analytics Insight predicts the number of cases in India to rise to 13,420 with 412 deaths by 1st May 2020. "We modeled the COVID-19 coronavirus cases in India based on current case data to predict the cumulative number of reported cases to final size. The key features of our model are current cases, new cases per day, the implementation of major public policies, the identification and isolation of unreported cases, preparedness of the country and the recovery rate," says Ashish Sukhadeve, Founder and CEO, Analytics Insight.
For a densely populated country like India, the number of cases is relatively low compared with the US and Europe. In the US, we estimate the number of cases at 11,48,925 by 1st of May 2020. The number will be followed by Spain at 2,47,850 and 2,15,693 in Italy which has reported the world's highest number of deaths related to the coronavirus at 12,428. The country has the second-highest number of cases globally, second only to the U.S.
Recently, the World Bank has offered $1 billion to the Indian government for a proposed India Covid-19 emergency response and health systems preparedness project. The four-year project aims to develop the preparedness of India's health care systems in the time of the pandemic. Last week, the government announced a Rs1.7 trillion relief package, amounting to about 1 percent of the country's GDP, to overcome the economic damage caused by the virus outbreak that has already killed around 47,000 people across the world.
