Dial into Monster Hunter Wilds’ new dual-weapon system! Select primary and secondary weapons at camp via the Equipment Menu. Ride your Seikret mount and press the right D-pad to swap weapons mid-hunt for tactical flexibility.
For years, Monster Hunter players followed one rule: pick a weapon and commit. But Monster Hunter Wilds changes everything. Dual weapon loadouts are finally a reality, offering real-time flexibility on the battlefield, where players can opt for a different weapon mid-battle to optimize damage output and buffs, if needed.
This feature becomes available during the second main story mission, Village of Whispering Winds. After a showdown with the new Brute Wyvern, Quematrice, the return to base triggers a gift from Y’sai: the Seikret mount, complete with a custom saddle made by Gemma. That saddle carries a second weapon, no camp visits required.
Setup is quick and accessible from any base or field camp:
Enter the tent at camp.
Select Change Equipment.
Both Primary and Secondary weapon slots become visible.
Pick weapons from the 14 available types.
The primary slot starts the hunt, while the secondary sits stored in the Seikret’s saddle.
Swapping between weapons is smooth and immediate:
Console: Press the right D-pad button
PC: Press X
The hunter mounts the Seikret and switches instantly. The first weapon tucks away, the second one comes out.
Weapon swapping only works while riding the Seikret.
Distance from monsters reduces risk, as the switch leaves a short vulnerability window.
Swapping during movement allows for tactical repositioning.
Combat variety is crucial. Some monsters demand brute force; others fall to precision or range. Dual loadouts offer adaptability that can define success in a fight.
Effective combos include:
Hammer + Bowgun: For a mix of blunt trauma and ranged pressure.
Gunlance + Insect Glaive: Switch between explosive strikes and aerial mobility.
Great Sword + Dual Blades: Trade raw power for speed when needed.
The Seikret isn’t just transportation. With that saddle upgrade, it becomes a tactical asset. This feature brings depth to the hunt, allowing preparation to meet opportunities in real-time. Maximum loadout is capped at two weapons for now. No secret third slot, unless Capcom has a surprise in store. Adaptability now reigns in Monster Hunter Wilds. The right swap at the right time could be the difference between falling short and landing the final blow.
