Key Takeaways

  • Capcom is bringing a new update for Monster Hunter Wilds to add one of the highly requested in-game features.

  • Monster Hunter Wilds players are excited to receive the layered weapon feature and customize the weapons accordingly.

  • The recent play drop issue has made Capcom rethink their decision of not adding the layered weapon feature and fixing other reported bugs.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise is one of the highly praised action RPG franchises. These games are widely popular for the complexity of gameplay and formidable monster fights. The latest installment in the series, Monster Hunter Wilds, is one of the most popular games released this year, with a Metacritic score of 7.2 based on more than a thousand user ratings.

Competing with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, this game has made its place in the gaming world. However, recently, the game has met an unfortunate fate of player drop. Addressing that issue, Capcom is bringing a new update with one of the most requested in-game features.

Monster Hunter Wilds: The Return of Layered Weapons

Weapons are the key elements in Monster Hunter Wilds. In a brutal world where formidable monsters await at every step, it’s necessary to have potent weapons, and since the game was released, the ability to transmog weapons is the most required feature. Finally, Capcom has granted this wish of players and announced Title Update 2 coming soon.

As of now, Title Update 2 is set to release in Summer 2025, with multiple attractive features, including balance adjustments, quality-of-life additions, game stability improvements, new 8-star hunts, and, most importantly, layered weapons. Since this news is out, players are excited to gain the opportunity to customize the in-game weapons according to their outfits.

The layered weapon feature was initially introduced in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, and it was used to allow players to alter the appearance of their weapons without affecting their stats and performance. Therefore, hunters can wield their most potent gear while maintaining the preferred aesthetics.

Before MH Wilds was launched, players assumed this feature would come in the game at launch, considering its popularity in the previous titles. However, that wasn’t the case. As the game faces a downfall in active player count, Capcom’s decision to reintroduce the layered weapon feature may change the scenario.

Innovations Elevating the Hunting Experience in Monster Hunter Wilds

The reintroduction of layered weapons isn’t everything the game is about to offer to gamers. There is more that this Title Update 2 will bring to enrich gameplay and enhance engagement. Monster Hunter’s official X account has shared a post that revealed the new features coming with the update.

One of the most interesting among them is the ability upgrade of Seikret. Monster Hunter Wilds has introduced a bird-like mount named Seikret that not only makes faster travel accessible, but it also allows players to carry and switch between weapons during hunts. The upcoming update will enhance its capabilities.

Apart from that, the game is about to get Hammer improvements, new 8-star tempered monsters, a new arch-tempered monster, and significant changes in the Photo Mode. As per the game director, with this updated version of the photo mode, players will be able to toggle their hunter's visibility on and off. Moreover, they can remove the visual effects of skills and items.

Finally, assuring the fans, Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda has stated that starting from the end of 2025, this open-world RPG will get regular updates to bring fresh content to gamers and balance the gameplay.

Conclusion

Monster Hunter Wilds marks a significant evolution in the franchise. For the first time in Monster Hunter’s history, Capcom has made the gameplay a little less formidable to attract young gamers. While it still has the beloved features from the past entries, it has blended them with innovative mechanics to increase player engagement. At a point when player count is going down, once again the developer is returning to another fan-favorite feature.

The reintroduction of layered weapons not only satisfies the demand of long-standing community requests, but it will also set an example of how much Capcom values players. This latest installment stands as a testament to the series’ strategic move to grow and increase the fanbase in this progressing gaming world.
