Stuck on today's puzzle? These hints should point you in the right direction without giving everything away.

  1. Yellow group: Materials used to make sculptures.

  2. Green group: Places or things people sit on at a restaurant.

  3. Blue group: Words tied to telecom services.

  4. Purple group: Words that end in the name of a Chinese dynasty.

For the purple group, look at how each word ends, not what it means.

Still can't crack it? Here are the full answers for NYT Connections #1204.

Yellow Category: Sculpture Media

BRONZE, CLAY, MARBLE, PLASTER

These are all materials sculptors use. Bronze gets cast, clay gets shaped, marble gets carved, and plaster gets molded or cast.

Green Category: Restaurant Seating Options

BANQUETTE, BOOTH, CHAIR, STOOL

All four are places to sit at a restaurant. BOOTH can throw you off since it also makes you think of a phone booth.

Blue Category: Telecom

CARRIER, NETWORK, OPERATOR, PROVIDER

These words all relate to telecom. They can refer to a company, a service, or a system that operates communication networks.

Purple Category: Ending in Chinese Dynasties

BBQING, HOMING, LOHAN, WU-TANG

This one is the hardest. Each word ends with a sound that matches a Chinese dynasty name:

  • BBQING → QING

  • HOMING → MING

  • LOHAN → HAN

  • WU-TANG → TANG

Say the words out loud, and the pattern gets easier to spot.

Puzzle Breakdown

Today's puzzle has a few easy groups and one tricky one. The sculpture materials are the simplest place to start. The seating and telecom words need more care since they can pull you toward the wrong group.

The purple group is the real challenge because the link sits inside the word endings, not the full words. Reading each word out loud helps more than staring at it.
