Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Turbo 4, marking the debut of the MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Ultra chipset. This device combines advanced technology with competitive pricing, aiming to make a significant impact in the mid-range smartphone market.

Design and Display

The Redmi Turbo 4 features a 6.67-inch LTPS OLED display with a 1.5K resolution (1220 x 2712 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals for gaming and multimedia. The screen achieves a peak brightness of 3,200 nits and is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, offering durability against scratches and drops. The front houses a 20MP (OV20B) camera within a punch-hole cutout, and an optical in-display fingerprint scanner provides quick and secure access.

The device's back showcases a dual-tone glass finish, available in black, white, and sea blue colors. It houses a dual-camera setup and bears the "Redmi" logo in the lower-right corner. The design omits the previous connection between the camera island and the frame, resulting in a cleaner appearance. Additionally, the Redmi Turbo 4 boasts IP66, IP68, and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings, ensuring protection against various environmental factors.

Performance and Hardware

At the heart of the Redmi Turbo 4 lies the MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Ultra processor, the first in its class to adopt a full-big-core CPU architecture. This octa-core configuration includes a 3.25GHz Cortex-A725 large core, three 3.0GHz Cortex-A725 large cores, and four 2.1GHz Cortex-A725 large cores, delivering an AnTuTu benchmark score exceeding 1.8 million. The Mali-G720 MC7 GPU enhances graphics performance, offering a 24% improvement over previous generations while reducing power consumption by 42%.

The device offers multiple memory configurations:

  • 12GB RAM with 256GB storage

  • 16GB RAM with 256GB storage

  • 12GB RAM with 512GB storage

  • 16GB RAM with 512GB storage

This range caters to varying user needs, from moderate use to intensive multitasking and gaming.

Battery and Charging

The Redmi Turbo 4 is equipped with a substantial 6,550mAh silicon-carbon battery, the largest ever in a Xiaomi smartphone. It supports 90W wired fast charging, capable of fully charging the device in approximately 45 minutes. Xiaomi assures the battery's durability for four years and offers a five-year warranty on the battery for early purchasers. The device also features a dual-boost cold-resistant chip, enabling operation in ultra-low temperatures down to -35°C.

Camera System

The rear camera setup includes:

A 50MP main sensor (Sony LYT-600) with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)

An 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens

This combination allows for versatile photography, from detailed close-ups to expansive landscape shots. The front-facing 20MP camera ensures high-quality selfies and video calls.

Software and Features

Running on Xiaomi's HyperOS 2, based on Android 15, the Redmi Turbo 4 provides an intuitive and user-friendly interface. The device includes an infrared port, enabling it to function as a remote control for various appliances. Additionally, it supports triple-band Beidou positioning and dual-frequency GPS, ensuring accurate navigation.

Pricing and Availability

The Redmi Turbo 4 is available in China with the following pricing:

  • 12GB/256GB: CNY 1,999 ($273)

  • 16GB/256GB: CNY 2,199 ($301)

  • 12GB/512GB: CNY 2,299 ($315)

  • 16GB/512GB: CNY 2,499 ($342)

These competitive prices make the device an attractive option in the mid-range smartphone segment. The Redmi Turbo 4 is expected to launch globally as the Poco X7 Pro on January 9, broadening its availability to international markets.

Market Reception

Initial sales data indicates a strong market reception, with the Redmi Turbo 4 achieving a 220% increase in first-day sales compared to its predecessor. This surge reflects consumer confidence in Xiaomi's latest offering and the appeal of its advanced features at a competitive price point.

The Redmi Turbo 4 combines cutting-edge technology, robust performance, and thoughtful design, positioning it as a formidable contender in the mid-range smartphone market. Its debut of the MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Ultra chipset, substantial battery capacity, and competitive pricing make it a compelling choice for consumers seeking high performance without a flagship price tag. As it prepares for a global release under the Poco brand, the Redmi Turbo 4 is poised to attract a broad audience and set new standards in its segment.
