Overview:

  • Global Fintech Fest 2026 focused on the theme 'Potential to Impact,' highlighting agentic AI, tokenization, and quantum technology as three pillars of financial innovation.

  • The event explored how these technologies could improve fraud prevention, automate financial workflows, make assets more accessible, and strengthen digital security.

  • Digital payments and financial inclusion also remain important opportunities, particularly as countries expand their digital financial infrastructure.

Financial technology is set to enter a new phase. Digital payments and mobile banking have already changed how people manage money, but the next wave of innovation could reshape how financial systems make decisions, transfer value, and protect transactions. These developments took center stage at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, which brought together financial institutions, technology companies, regulators, investors, and startups in Mumbai.

The event's theme, 'Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenization, Quantum,' focused on turning emerging technologies into practical solutions for a more connected, secure, and inclusive financial system. The central message was that innovation must deliver reliable results at scale to provide practical value.

Agentic AI Moves Beyond Automation

Financial institutions already use AI for fraud detection, customer support, credit assessment, and financial analysis. Agentic AI takes this further by enabling systems to plan tasks, make decisions, and act within defined boundaries.

For financial institutions, this could mean handling several steps of a customer request, monitoring suspicious transactions in real time, or helping employees analyze risk across large volumes of data. AI agents could also support more personalized financial services by using relevant information to respond to customer needs.

However, greater autonomy brings greater responsibility. Banks and fintech companies need safeguards to prevent unauthorized actions, protect customer data, and explain important decisions. Human oversight remains essential, particularly when decisions affect access to credit, investments, or other financial services.

Tokenization Could Change How Assets are Traded

In essence, tokenization converts ownership rights in an underlying asset into tokens recorded on a digital platform. Depending on the asset type and legal environment, this method can enable fractional ownership, faster settlements, and more efficient record-keeping.

Possible use cases include securities such as bonds and fund securities, as well as other assets like real estate. Tokenization might enable smaller investment sizes and automate settlement and regulatory processes.

However, tokenization is more than simply tokenizing assets on a blockchain. Ownership, investor protection, liquidity, interoperability, and regulatory clarity all matter. Companies that can address these practical problems could create a market around these services.

Quantum Technology and the Future of Financial Security

Quantum computing is still relatively new; however, its potential implications for the finance industry have already attracted significant attention. More advanced algorithms may help solve optimization, portfolio analysis, and risk-modeling challenges in the future.

Security should also be mentioned. Future quantum computers could put many currently used public-key cryptography protocols in jeopardy. Fintech companies must identify which systems use vulnerable cryptographic protocols and develop a strategy to replace them with more secure ones.

The process will take time, but it gives fintech companies and cybersecurity providers a chance to prepare for these threats in advance.

Digital Payments and Financial Inclusion

Digital payments continue to drive fintech innovation, making it easier for consumers and firms to transact. India's digital public infrastructure, including the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), demonstrates technology's potential to facilitate payments at the population level.

The future lies in connecting payment mechanisms to wider financial products such as loans, insurance, savings, and cross-border payments. Improved infrastructure could reduce friction for small businesses, increase access to financial products for disadvantaged groups, and simplify international payments.

Yet access must be matched with robust consumer protection. Digital literacy, affordable products, connectivity, and fraud prevention are essential if financial technology is to benefit people across income groups and geographic regions.

Opportunities for Startups and Financial Institutions

GFF offers a platform where startups can showcase their products, pursue partnership initiatives, and meet investors who may offer opportunities to work with traditional financial institutions.

For startups, interesting areas to explore include AI-powered risk management, fraud detection, digital identity, tokenization platforms, and quantum security. For banks and fintechs, partnerships can help them develop solutions while testing them in the field.

The best opportunities will come from solving the customer problem rather than just implementing technology.
