Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is the latest addition to the YRF Spy Universe and marks the first time the franchise puts two female spies at the heart of the story.
Alpha is now streaming on Netflix from August 28, 2026. The film had its theatrical release on July 3, 2026, so audiences who chose to wait for its digital premiere can finally watch it at home.
The Netflix release also gives the film an opportunity to reach viewers who may have skipped its theatrical run, especially fans of Alia Bhatt, Sharvari and the larger YRF Spy Universe.
At the center of Alpha are two highly trained intelligence agents played by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. The film follows their dangerous missions as they navigate the murky world of espionage, loyalty and betrayal.
Their biggest challenge comes in the form of Bobby Deol’s Fateh, a formidable figure whose presence raises the stakes considerably. Anil Kapoor plays the R&AW chief, while the story also carries connections to the wider spy universe created by YRF.
But beyond the guns, explosions and elaborate action sequences, Alpha attempts to explore what it means for women to survive, and succeed, in a world traditionally dominated by male spies.

The film entered theaters with considerable buzz, particularly as it was the first female-led film in the YRF Spy Universe. However, its box-office journey turned out to be somewhat underwhelming.
Alpha reportedly opened at around Rs. 9 crore net in India and picked up during the opening weekend. By the end of its theatrical run, trade estimates placed its India net collection at approximately Rs. 58 crore, while its worldwide collection was close to Rs. 99 crore.
Reviews were mixed. Alia and Sharvari’s performances and the film’s action sequences received appreciation, although some critics felt that the story leaned too heavily on familiar spy-thriller tropes.
Apart from Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, the film features R. Madhavan in a key role. Shiv Rawail directed the movie, while Aditya Chopra produced it under the Yash Raj Films banner. The screenplay was written by Shridhar Raghavan and Soumil Shukla, with dialogues by Ishita Moitra.
For Alia, Alpha is only one of several major projects on the horizon. She will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. She is also attached to Tumbbad 2, which is scheduled for 2027.
Sharvari, meanwhile, is continuing her run of interesting projects with Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, which also stars Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina and Naseeruddin Shah.
