Artificial intelligence cryptocurrencies are gaining momentum again, with Virtuals Protocol's VIRTUAL token surging 10% in a single day.
The rise came as asset manager Franklin Templeton highlighted the transformative potential of AI and blockchain technologies working together.
Franklin Templeton recently called the interaction between AI agents and blockchains "very exciting," emphasizing the buzz surrounding tokens like AI16z and VIRTUAL.
Over the past day, AI agent tokens have posted some of the biggest gains among the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market cap.
VIRTUAL, launched on Ethereum's layer-2 network Base, saw a 15% spike earlier in the day, bringing its price to a local high of $3.10.
As of now, the token is trading at $2.88, up by more than 5% over the past day. However, the token is still down by 17% over the past week.
VIRTUAL powers a variety of AI agents, including AiXBT, which is nearing its all-time high.
After a heated start to the year, the recent crypto market recovery seems to be reigniting interest in AI agent tokens.
Similarly, AI16z, a DAO managed by AI agents, has bounced back after slipping out of the top 100 coins earlier this week. Trading at $1.30, it is up over 18% in the past day. However, despite the recent recovery, it remains 47% below its all-time high of $2.47 set just weeks ago.
AI agent tokens like VIRTUAL are gaining traction as they promise utility and innovation, though they are still in their early stages.
"Although these agents are not yet fully autonomous, and have little utility in their current state, this emerging sector may hold significant promise and is worth watching closely as it evolves and matures," Franklin Templeton said in the note.
