Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin is expanding across traditional finance through new banking, wallet infrastructure, and brokerage partnerships. Recent developments involving Standard Chartered, Privy and DriveWealth highlight growing institutional interest in blockchain-based payments and settlement.

According to CoinGecko, RLUSD’s market capitalization reached approximately USD 2.42 billion on October 19, 2026, compared with USD 1.46 billion in early August, representing nearly 65% growth.

RLUSD Market Capitalization and Reserve Coverage

RLUSD, launched in December 2024, is designed to maintain a value of USD 1 through dollar-denominated reserves. According to Ripple's September transparency report, approximately USD 2.409 billion in circulating RLUSD was supported by USD 2.5315 billion in reserve assets, representing nearly 105% coverage.

The stablecoin is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, which operates under New York regulatory supervision. Monthly reserve attestations provide transparency, although they cannot eliminate liquidity, operational, or counterparty risks.

Standard Chartered Introduces Institutional RLUSD Custody

On October 12, Standard Chartered launched institutional custody services for RLUSD issued on the XRP Ledger through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch. The bank also announced plans with Ripple and LMAX Group to integrate RLUSD into institutional trading collateral arrangements.

The proposed collateral-mirroring structure would allow eligible clients to use collateral value without transferring underlying tokens directly to trading venues. However, the collateral integration remains subject to testing, documentation, and regulatory approvals.

Privy Enables Programmable RLUSD Wallets

Ripple's partnership with Stripe-owned Privy, announced October 13, introduces programmable wallet infrastructure for the XRP Ledger. Developers can integrate wallets supporting XRP, RLUSD and other network assets into financial applications.

The integration also supports server-side wallets designed for automated transactions and AI-agent commerce, potentially expanding RLUSD's payment applications. However, the announcement does not establish additional transaction volumes or confirmed adoption figures.

DriveWealth Plans RLUSD Settlement Integration

On October 14, DriveWealth announced a partnership with Ripple covering stablecoin settlement, cross-border payments and digital asset custody.

The brokerage infrastructure provider plans to begin settlement integration in Europe before considering expansion into the United States. RLUSD could eventually help institutional clients fund collateral accounts and convert stablecoins into cash more efficiently than conventional bank transfers.

Does RLUSD Growth Benefit XRP?

RLUSD and XRP perform different functions. RLUSD targets dollar stability, while XRP remains a market-priced cryptocurrency. Although growing RLUSD adoption could increase XRP Ledger activity, it does not automatically generate XRP buying demand or guarantee price appreciation.

Final Thoughts

RLUSD's expanding institutional partnerships strengthen its potential utility across custody, payments and settlement. However, holders should monitor reserve attestations, redemption conditions, network compatibility and actual transaction adoption rather than relying solely on partnership announcements.

FAQs:

1. What is Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin, and how does it work?

RLUSD is a US dollar-backed stablecoin designed to maintain a value close to USD 1 through reserves consisting of cash and highly liquid assets. It supports digital payments, trading, transfers and institutional settlement across compatible blockchain networks.

2. Why is Standard Chartered's RLUSD custody service important?

Standard Chartered launched institutional custody services for RLUSD on the XRP Ledger through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch in October 2026. This allows eligible institutional clients to hold RLUSD through an established banking institution rather than relying exclusively on cryptocurrency exchanges or specialized custodians.

3. How does the Privy partnership benefit RLUSD and XRP Ledger users?

Ripple's integration with Stripe-owned Privy enables developers to create programmable wallets supporting RLUSD, XRP and other XRP Ledger assets. The infrastructure could support embedded payments, automated transactions and AI-agent commerce, although broader adoption remains to be demonstrated.

4. How will DriveWealth use RLUSD for financial settlement?

DriveWealth plans to integrate RLUSD into its brokerage infrastructure for stablecoin settlement, cross-border payments and digital asset custody. The partnership initially targets Europe, with potential expansion into the United States, and aims to improve collateral funding and settlement efficiency.

5. Will growing RLUSD adoption increase the price of XRP?

RLUSD adoption does not automatically increase XRP's price because RLUSD is a dollar-pegged stablecoin, while XRP is a separate cryptocurrency with a floating market value. However, greater institutional use of RLUSD on the XRP Ledger could increase network activity, liquidity and ecosystem adoption, potentially benefiting XRP indirectly.
