Up to this date, Apple has been working on enhancing its capabilities in artificial intelligence, but has yet to release an AI powered chatbot. Siri is the main voice of Apple, and they are focusing on improving the Apple assistant’s efficiency and cognitive ability. This is their main goal.
Information from a leaked memo coming from Apple’s head of AI reveals the company’s priorities. In an effort that is purely aimed at making Siri more advanced and competitive, Apple is focusing on revamping Siri’s core infrastructure and improving its in-house AI models.
Veteran project manager Kim Vorrath has transitioned into Apple’s AI division. He is known for handling major projects and now he has been tasked with leading Siri’s improvements. However, Apple is yet to officially comment on this move.
Apple has prioritized keeping AI on-device, favoring privacy and security. This is an approach that contrasts with competitors like Google and OpenAI because they rely more on cloud-based AI. Reports suggest Apple is two years behind in AI development.
Currently Siri integrates with OpenAI’s ChatGPT for AI-driven searches. Despite this partnership, ChatGPT struggles with some tasks Siri already handles well. Apple is reportedly considering adding support for Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude.
Apple is also working on a Siri-specific large language model. This advanced AI system may not launch until iOS 19.4 in 2026. In the meantime, Apple Intelligence continues to roll out new features, though some have faced issues.
Apple's focus remains on Siri rather than a separate chatbot as it refines its AI technology. The long-term AI strategy of the company will unfold as updates and improvements continue.
