The NSE IPO has a big update. SEBI issued its observation letter to the National Stock Exchange, clearing an important hurdle for its public listing on September 4, 2026. NSE filed its draft IPO papers in June 2026, almost a decade after its first plan was halted for regulatory complications. The exchange could be listed on the BSE later this month, and September 25 seems to be the most likely date for that. However, the exact date, price, and other details are yet to be announced.

According to reports, the IPO will be an Offer for Sale (OFS), where existing shareholders plan to sell up to 14.89 crore shares, which is close to 6% of NSE’s paid-up capital. NSE itself will not get money from the share sale. The IPO could be worth around Rs. 30,000 crore and, speculatively, this is going to be the biggest IPO in India, crossing Hyundai Motor India’s Rs. 27,870 crore IPO.

NSE is one of India’s biggest stock exchanges. Its listing will give public investors a chance to own shares in the exchange itself. SBI Group is among the major shareholders (up to Rs. 2.475 crore) looking to sell shares. MS Strategic, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Aranda Investments, Bank of Baroda and Stock Holding Corporation of India are also part of the OFS.

The biggest question now is whether NSE can cross the Rs. 27,870 crore mark set by Hyundai Motor India. The possible Rs. 30,000 crore size puts NSE ahead on paper. The final numbers, however, will depend on the price band and issue size.
