Tata Motors continues to dominate India’s electric vehicle market but faces growing competition. Despite selling 61,496 EVs in 2024, Tata’s market share fell from 73% to 62% as new players entered the field. In response, Tata is bolstering its lineup with the launch of limited-edition Stealth variants of its popular SUVs, the Safari and Harrier. The company also plans to launch the Harrier EV and Sierra EV in 2025, aiming to stay ahead of rivals like Mahindra, Hyundai, and Maruti Suzuki.
Tata also plans to strengthen its position with new launches. Tata announced the launch of a limited-edition Stealth variant of its popular SUVs, the Safari and Harrier. The Harrier EV will arrive in the first half of 2025 followed by the Sierra EV in the second half. These models aim to compete with new EVs from Mahindra, Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki.
Vivek Srivatsa who is the Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility stated that growing competition will benefit the industry. He also emphasized Tata's experience, broad customer base and wide product range priced between ₹8 lakh and ₹22 lakh.
India’s EV market is expanding rapidly. In 2024, EV sales crossed the 2 million mark for the first time, reflecting a 24% growth from 2023. The market share of EVs in total vehicle sales increased to 8%. Srivatsa predicts that EV adoption will accelerate further once it surpasses 5-6% of the total passenger vehicle market.
Talking about the limited-edition Stealth variants of the Safari and Harrier SUVs, these models feature a matte black finish, advanced technology and safety enhancements and only 2,700 units will be available.
As competition intensifies, Tata continues to innovate and expand its EV lineup. With new models and a growing market, the company aims to maintain its dominance in India’s electric vehicle sector.
