AI and ML Engineering: NITs Offering BTech Programs in AI and ML for 2025 Admissions

Written By : Harshini Chakka

In 2025, the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) will continue to excel in offering BTech programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Data Science Engineering. Admission to these programs is based on candidates' performance in the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main), one of India's most prestigious entrance exams. The selection process for these highly sought-after courses will be conducted through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling. This article focuses on the BTech in AI and ML, which has become one of the top engineering specializations in India.

Introduction to BTech in AI and ML

The growing demand for professionals skilled in AI and ML has led to the rise of specialised engineering programs in these fields. Among the top institutes in India, the NITs stand out as leaders in delivering quality education in AI and ML engineering. With advancements in machine learning, data analytics, and artificial intelligence, students enrolling in BTech in AI and ML are gaining skills that will equip them for roles in diverse industries, from tech to healthcare, finance, and beyond.

NITs Offering AI and ML Engineering

Last year, only a few NITs offered BTech in AI and ML programs. NIT Sikkim and NIT Kurukshetra were the key institutes that provided AI and ML-focused BTech courses. These institutes have seen increased seat demand, with competitive cut-off ranks for various categories.

  • NIT Sikkim: NIT Sikkim offers BTech in AI and ML for both Home State (HS) and Other State (OS) candidates. The cut-off ranks for the open category in the gender-neutral section for Home State candidates ranged from 1,18,100 to 2,87,332. For female-only (including supernumerary) candidates, the range was from 1,02,401 to 4,81,065. For Other State candidates, the gender-neutral cut-off ranks ranged from 17,987 to 25,843, while the female-only (including supernumerary) cut-offs were between 31,349 and 31,349.

  • NIT Kurukshetra: Similarly, NIT Kurukshetra offers AI and ML engineering in both the home state and other state quotas. The opening and closing ranks for Home State candidates in the gender-neutral category ranged from 5,056 to 9,975. Female-only (including supernumerary) candidates had ranks ranging from 17,769 to 19,534. For other state candidates, the gender-neutral cut-off ranged from 5,372 to 7,457, while female-only candidates had ranks from 9,364 to 11,089.

These numbers reflect the increasing popularity of AI and ML engineering and the competitive nature of admissions to NITs offering AI and ML programs.

Best NITs for BTech in AI and ML

NITs are among the best engineering institutions in India. They offer a range of AI and ML engineering courses, drawing students from across the country. Among the top NITs for BTech in AI and ML, NIT Sikkim and NIT Kurukshetra stand out for their strong academic reputation and the quality of education they offer in AI and ML. Other NITs, including NIT Trichy and NIT Warangal, provide high-quality programs in AI, machine learning, and related disciplines.

Students looking for the best NITs for BTech in AI and ML should consider factors such as faculty expertise, infrastructure, industry collaborations, and placement opportunities. These NITs also offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes subjects like algorithms, data structures, machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence programming, giving students the skills needed for a career in AI and ML.

AI and ML Programs in India: A Growing Trend

With AI & ML technologies emerging as significant forces across industries, the number of educational institutions in India is also rising for AI/ML-specific programs. Many students are now enrolling in BTech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for the prospect of jobs in the future technology market. Programmes addressing current issues and needs, the NITs, which offer degrees in artificial intelligence and machine learning engineering, guarantee that the student is not only fed with theory but skills that are in industries.

Furthermore, AI and ML engineering have tremendous potential. From autonomous vehicles to robotic systems, predictive analysis, and healthcare automation, use of AI and ML continues to spread. This has not only led to a shortage of engineers who can design and integrate AI into a corporation's solutions, but it has also led to a shortage of engineers who can design and integrate AI into a corporation’s solutions. Therefore, using the offered program title of BTech in AI and ML, students participating in the program are likely to be rewarded with better jobs in the continuously advancing technological sector.

Conclusion: The Future of AI and ML Education

Prospective engineers are increasingly pursuing B.Tech programs in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning offered at NITs. As the demand for AI and ML experts continues to grow, these programs are becoming more competitive and attracting talent from various regions across the country.

Enrolling in a B.Tech program in AI and ML at a leading NIT is an excellent step toward a promising future for students interested in these fields. With more companies seeking skilled AI and ML engineers, the curricula at NITs provide comprehensive training that prepares students for entry into the rapidly evolving world of advanced technology.
