Overview

  • Google AI can create personalized travel plans based on user preferences.

  • Travelers can monitor flight prices and receive alerts when fares change.

  • AI Mode helps users discover, compare, and book participating hotels.

Planning a holiday can mean searching across multiple websites for flights, hotels, reward points, reviews, and things to do. Google is now bringing several of these tasks into its AI-powered Search experience, giving travelers a more conversational way to research and organize their trips.

The latest updates to Google’s AI Mode include tools for building customized itineraries, tracking flight prices, checking points and miles, and discovering and booking hotels. The company is also using information from its connected services to make travel recommendations more personalized.

Create Customized Travel Itineraries

Google’s AI Mode can help travelers build a personalized plan based on what they want from a trip. Users can describe their preferences and receive an itinerary that brings together different parts of the holiday.

The itinerary can include flight and hotel options, attractions, restaurants, and daily plans. Through Canvas, travelers can continue refining their plans by asking follow-up questions and making changes to meet their requirements.

The aim is to reduce the need to search separately for each part of a trip. Instead, travelers can start with a broad idea and use follow-up prompts to narrow down their options.

Track Flight Prices

Google is bringing flight price tracking into AI Mode, allowing travelers to monitor fares while using the conversational search experience.

Users can provide their destination and travel dates, and AI Mode can show available flight options with the latest prices from more than 300 partner airlines and travel sites. Travelers can then ask Google to track the prices.

Once price tracking is activated, users will receive an email when prices change for their selected destination and dates.

Google said flight price tracking in AI Mode is available in more than 180 countries and territories, excluding EEA countries and territories.

Check Points and Miles

Travelers who prefer to use rewards can also check how many points or miles are needed for eligible flights and hotels through AI Mode.

Users can provide their destination, dates, and preferred rewards program. AI Mode can then display relevant options based on information from Google’s partners.

Once travelers choose an option, they can follow a link to the partner website to complete the redemption.

The points and miles feature is available globally. Google initially launched it with support for Alaska Airlines / Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels International, Hilton and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

Support for Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines and Lufthansa Group is set to be added in the coming weeks.

Find and Book Hotels

Google is also making it possible to discover and book hotels through AI Mode.

Travelers can describe their destination, dates, and hotel preferences, after which AI Mode can provide visual hotel options along with guest reviews and other key details.

Users can compare properties and, after selecting a hotel, ask AI Mode to help with the booking. They can choose a room type, check details such as cancellation policies, and complete the reservation securely through Google Pay when available.

Hotel booking through AI Mode has started rolling out in the US in English.

Google said the feature will be available with Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, Hotels.com, Hilton, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline, Trip.com and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

Get Personalized Travel Recommendations

Google is also using AI to make travel recommendations more relevant to individual users.

Gemini can use information from connected Google services, including Gmail, Photos and YouTube, to provide more personalized travel assistance. Existing bookings, interests, and other relevant information can help shape recommendations.

Google has also highlighted how Gemini can organize travel information. Gemini in Chrome can consolidate information from multiple tabs into a single itinerary, helping users bring together details they may have gathered during their research.

What This Means for Travelers

Google’s latest updates show how AI is changing the way people can approach travel planning. Tasks that traditionally required separate searches, from comparing flights and hotels to checking reward points and building itineraries, can increasingly be handled through a single conversational experience.

The traditional booking process is still part of the journey, with users directed to partner websites for several transactions. But by bringing research, comparison, price tracking and planning into AI Mode, Google is attempting to make the process more connected.

For travelers, the biggest change may be the ability to start with a simple request and build an entire trip from there, rather than working through every detail separately.
