Is India Not Fully Ready for Artificial Intelligence Adoption?

The article mentions the roadblocks that hinder India's full Artificial Intelligence adoption

The widespread adoption of AI solutions in India is being hampered by severe roadblocks, despite the widely accepted promise of Artificial Intelligence to boost national growth and wealth. The article mentions how India is not fully ready for Artificial Intelligence Adoption.

Knowing is just half the battle; the other half is doing. By 2035, AI has the potential to grow India's GDP by $957 billion and increase its national growth rate by 1.3%. This game-changing technology is also well-positioned to tackle issues like the cost and accessibility of high-quality healthcare, education, and mobility solutions. Yet, there are substantial bumps in the road that are impeding the widespread adoption of AI solutions in India, so the sail is not exactly smooth.

In a recently published whitepaper, the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) outlined some of the major difficulties.

An overview of the obstacles to the widespread adoption of AI-driven solutions in India may be seen below. Today's daily routine has been revolutionized by artificial intelligence.

A major catalyst for the Indian commercial market will be artificial intelligence. The applications of artificial intelligence in the fields of healthcare, automotive, agriculture, manufacturing, and information technology have been amazing. There is no longer any area or niche in the world where artificial intelligence, or its offshoots like machine learning or cognitive computing, etc., has not been successful.

Currently, whether it is a commercial space, private investment, or public sector activities, what the Indian Business sector or the government dreams of is putting AI in nearly every nook and cranny of society. Nobody could have ever imagined that artificial intelligence (AI) might be employed in a certain work process, thus it is astounding that it has been implemented in practically every sector of society. The strength of artificial intelligence is evident in that.

The #AIforAll initiative has been actively developed by the policy think tank for the Indian government, NITI Aayog, to democratize the use of AI. The government also plans to use AI in healthcare, agriculture, and e-governance as part of the Digital India agenda. India is becoming the source of solutions for the domestic and international markets.

First, there are major difficulties with data security and privacy. AI solutions based on ML and DL rely on a vast amount of private data, most of it sensitive and personal. Together with automation, AI also introduces several security and privacy flaws, which can consequently increase the exposure of any organization to geopolitical risk and cyber risks. Yet, with the Personal Data Protection Bill of 2019 and the National Cyber Security Plan of 2020, India is headed in the right direction. Data is the foundation of artificial intelligence, thus having simple access to open-source data is essential for any nation looking to speed up the development and adoption of AI.

In addition to the regulatory limitations on data, the laborious but necessary processes of data annotation and labeling are required to produce meaningful datasets. But progress has been made; just lately, the government opened up access to geospatial data and services, a move that will undoubtedly spur innovation in this field.

Additionally, Cloud computing and AI infrastructure deficiencies also add to the roadblock Because AI is data-hungry and the cloud is the only workable solution, AI and cloud are interdependent. AI's fusion with cloud computing opens up countless opportunities for scaling. Despite the potential, India does not have access to the specialized computing and storage infrastructure that is the foundation of AI. Using India's own AI-first compute infrastructure, AIRAWAT, a cloud platform for Big Data analytics with sophisticated AI processing capabilities, a start has been made.
