Indian Tech Giants to Train Government Officials in Disruptive Technologies

Written By : Vivek Kumar

The government of India is very optimistic about disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud computing, Blockchain, and data analytics. But the daunting task ahead of it is to train millions of government officials so that these disruptive technologies can be benefited to more than one billion people.

Now the accountability is on tech giants to train the officials in the system, particularly in the information technology (IT) departments, and retail giant AWS (Amazon Web Services) – Amazon's Cloud arm – is set to begin the journey. Meanwhile, there is already lots of talk happening within the government agencies about the success they have had after shifting to Cloud.

According to Peter Moore, Regional Managing Director for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Global Public Sector – APAC and Japan, who said that "This is the right time to skill them, train them in AI-enabled Cloud computing so that India can move faster on embracing new-age technologies. We have had successful meetings with senior government leaders on this subject as AWS is already leading in skilling the students and upskilling the workforce in the country."

In the same context, Teresa Carlson, Vice President, Worldwide Public Sector of Amazon Web Services said, training relevant government employees is the key to fulfil the mission of Prime Minister Modi who aims to create a Cloud-first approach towards skilling and digital transformation, thus empowering over a billion people.

In a statement, she further noted that "It is high time the Indian government deploys AI and Machine Learning-driven Cloud models to make sense of the humongous sets of data. Training is a crucial part of this exercise."

To reach its vision to provide a 'One Government' experience to citizens, the Narendra Modi government is moving ahead rapidly to execute the India Enterprise Architecture (IndEA), a single-window digitisation solution for cashless, paperless and faceless services. However, it requires a faster and seamless implementation of AI-powered Cloud across the spectrum.

Microsoft's Digital Governance Tech Tour Programme

Last month, Microsoft India also announced to train Indian government IT officials in AI and intelligent cloud computing skills through a series of physical and virtual workshops. For this, the tech giant launched the nationwide Digital Governance Tech Tour programme, with the aim to train 5,000 personnel over a period of 12 months, with keeping in mind their respective technical levels.

This is a comprehensive free of cost 10-module program, where the course will have two tracks. As the first track covers Technical Directors, Technical Architects, and Project Managers, the second is meant for Developers, IT Architect and Application Architects.
