The issue of hedge funds in the US market is increasing to control its technology firms. Instead of promoting strategic initiatives, the focus of such funds is on quarterly results which are effectively selling off the future of the US to make money. The American MNC IBM is resisting this trend as it is one such company which is critical about dominance in technology and strategically active to maintain the same in the future. The company attracts a variety of questions on being able to bring the market Watson and investing significantly in quantum computing. In fact, these two components amplify the company's strategic efforts targeting high-performance computing (HPC).
Although most of the space of high-performance computing is defined by x86 computers but IBM stepped aside from this X86 based race. The company is rather focused on a very Apple-like strategy of assuring the hardware stack implying towards that IBM can typically provide higher security and better uptime as they own more of the technology in their platform, much like Apple does. This focus provides some unique advantages to IBM's platforms. IBM recently acquired Red Hat to further increase their unique reliability and security advantages.
Additionally, the System Z platform is even more unique with an ability to serve massive numbers of users is unprecedented in the market as is its security and uptime. The platform is more like a web service in a box. This platform is likely the closest thing to an Apple product.
When AI is added to the platform, the results become more efficient, and goal shifts from being extremely quick to comparatively speedy. Certain examples of IBM customers depict that system that in the spec is slower but tends to complete work more quickly because of intelligent approaches to the problem. With maturity, the capabilities of AI will add more to automation performance advantages and time to decision advantages for analytics.
Another element that enhances the high-performance computing strategy is its quantum effort. Where no other significant company is investing as much in quantum computing, IBM in the HPC space betting its quintessential funds. Notably, Quantum computing is a massive game-changer for the jobs that it is suited for including security, massive number crunching, and some types of modeling. Theoretically, a quantum computer can intervene into any existing encryption key in seconds and can provide relatively unbreakable encryption.
Following the chase of X86 was never supposed to be the winning strategy of the company as it doesn't match to its strength – customer service, security, and reliability. Therefore, the company has discovered a way to boost its platforms significantly while employing AI and quantum computing technologies. With the rise in their maturity and advancements, the technologies will make it to market and provide the firm with massive solution performance advantages. Also through the effective execution of the strategy, the company can thrive beyond its competitors.
