Google’s Gemini app has crossed 1 billion monthly users, marking a major step in the AI chatbot race. Sundar Pichai announced the milestone on August 11, 2026, through X.

Pichai called Gemini “our fastest growing product ever” while sharing the milestone on X. "1B+ people are now using @Geminiapp every month to spark new ideas and get things done," he wrote on X.

“Kudos to @JoshWoodward & the entire Gemini team, and thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with us,” the CEO added.

The achievement also makes Gemini the 14th Google product to cross 1 billion users. Gemini had 750 million monthly users in February before reaching 950 million in July. The company said Gemini reached the mark faster than any other product of theirs, adding Android access, Google services, image tools and special offers helped drive fast growth.

Gemini has grown quickly through Android, Chrome, Workspace and other Google products. This gives the AI chatbot access to millions of existing users without requiring separate app searches. More than 100 million Gemini users also access the app through Apple devices

Google added that consumers used their voice rather than typing to access Gemini. Around 63% of users talk to Gemini through voice while using the app. The AI platform also creates more than 150 million images each day for different creative tasks.

This milestone puts Gemini close to ChatGPT in the global AI race. ChatGPT also crossed 1 billion monthly users earlier this year, according to recent reports. The comparison needs care since both companies use different ways to measure users.
