Beyond Bhashini: Modi’s AI Arsenal Transforming India

Written By : Shiva Ganesh

Beyond Bhashini, Narendra Modi's visionary AI initiatives reshaping India's technological landscape

Prime Minister Modi is a strong advocate for the use of technology and AI in governance and citizen services. While Bhashini has gained recent attention for its real-time language translation capabilities, it's just one piece of the AI puzzle used by the Indian government under Modi's leadership. Here are some other notable AI tools and initiatives:

1. MyGov: This interactive platform uses artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics to poll the public, collect feedback from citizens, and hold public consultations on a range of policy matters. It assists the government in making defensible decisions by using sentiment analysis to determine public opinion on various subjects.

2. Aarogya Setu: Aarogya Setu is a contact tracing software that was created during the COVID-19 pandemic that employs AI to track the virus's progress and locate any clusters. Users can also obtain resources and information on health through it.

3. AI-powered grievance redressal systems: The Prime Minister's Office is one of the government agencies that has adopted AI-based grievance redressal methods. These systems evaluate citizen complaints using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and automatically forward them to the relevant authorities for prompt resolution.

4. AI for agriculture: The government is investigating several AI uses in agriculture, including precision farming methods, soil health analysis, and crop disease prediction. The sustainability and productivity of agriculture are the goals of these instruments.

5. Drone technology: Drones with AI capabilities are being employed for several tasks, such as border security, disaster relief, and agricultural monitoring. They can offer data and insights in real-time that were not available before.

6. Smart Cities Mission: The Smart Cities Mission uses a range of technologies, including artificial intelligence, to create 100 smart cities around India. AI is being utilized to make cities more habitable and efficient in areas like garbage management, traffic control, and city planning.

It's important to note that the specific AI tools used by Modi and the Indian government are constantly evolving and adapting to new challenges and opportunities. However, the examples mentioned above showcase the government's commitment to leveraging AI for better governance, citizen engagement, and public service delivery.  Overall, while Bhashini is a notable example of AI in action, it's just one facet of a much larger and multifaceted effort to harness the power of AI for the benefit of India and its citizens.
