Starship represents SpaceX's current focus, and it aims to achieve something no rocket has fully accomplished before: complete reusability. The Falcon 9 recovers only its first stage. Starship is designed to recover both the booster and the upper spacecraft, repeatedly, with minimal downtime between flights.
Musk has stated that the fuel required for a single trip to orbit could cost under a million dollars, a figure that would make Starship considerably cheaper to operate than anything currently in service, assuming the system performs as intended once it matures. NASA has already selected Starship as the lander for its Artemis moon missions, placing its confidence in this approach to reusability to return astronauts to the lunar surface later this decade.
