Zoom Enters the Artificial Intelligence Arena

The videoconference app provider Zoom enters the artificial intelligence arena with Zoom IQ

Video conferencing app provider Zoom has moved into the realm of artificial intelligence with the recent release of Zoom IQ, a set of tools designed to accelerate virtual collaboration through the use of generative AI.

These features – for example, "Meeting Summary" and "Team Chat Compose" – incorporate technologies from OpenAI and Anthropic and allow users to quickly summarise meetings and create content, eliminating the need to view recordings or spend money on post-video conference analysis to extract information or action items.

"With this flexibility to incorporate multiple types of models, we aim to meet the diverse needs of our customers," the company said in its blog. These models can also be tailored to a particular company's terminology and circumstances to improve performance, as they are changeable.

In addition to virtual backdrops and avatars, background noise cancellation, high-definition audio, speech recognition, and real-time transcription and translation are just some of the additional ways AI is being used in Zoom's products today.

However, the company's latest conversational and summarization services are entering an increasingly crowded market. In the industry of IT, AI-driven productivity solutions are anything but innovative, with multiple platforms developing and perfecting comparable features. For example, Notion has launched "Notion AI" to improve workflow, including otter and text summarization. Transcribing and summarising recordings have helped AI gain its reputation.

Another company, Opus, takes a slightly different approach by summarising large portions of longer films into concise social media posts that include transcriptions of conversations.

In addition, programs such as Vowel, Fathom, and Fireflies use AI technology to analyze voice interactions or summarise meetings. Vowel uses its technology to create meeting summaries, while Firefly focuses on analyzing audio conversations and Fathom provides recording, transcription, and summarization services.
