Meta Considering Payments to News Outlets for AI Training

Parvin Mohmad

Meta, Facebook's parent company, is allegedly considering paying news organizations for access to their material in order to improve the training of its AI language models.

This endeavor intends to improve Meta's generative AI tools, notably Meta AI, making them more effective and competitive with similar tools given by Google and Microsoft.

Meta is now in internal conversations about potentially signing partnerships with news publishers for more broad access to news, photo, and video material.

One of the sources said that Meta may eventually be forced to pay for such access.

Meta has not yet approached any news sites about licensing material, and any data access agreements would differ from prior accords.
