The iPhone 16e and Pixel 9a are both flagship devices with Apple A18 chips, while the Pixel 9a uses Google's Tensor G4 chip. Both have 8GB RAM, downgraded from the flagship. The iPhone 16e's performance is significantly better than the Pixel 9a's, with the A18 processor providing more headroom for durability. Benchmark scores are not yet available.

The iPhone 16e and Pixel 9a have single cameras with 48MP and 13MP sensors, respectively, with Apple's sensor allowing more light for better low-light photography. Both capture 4K video at 30 or 60 frames per second, and have AI photo editing features, with the Pixel 9a's usefulness uncertain.

The Pixel 9a from Google features a powerful 5,100 mAh battery with a battery life of over 30 hours. The iPhone 16e from Apple has the most substantial battery life of any iPhone to date, offering 26 hours of possible offline video and 21 hours of streaming video.

The iPhone 16e and Pixel have different designs compared to the iPhone 16 and Pixel 9 series smartphones, but both have a minimalist look and feel. The Pixel 9a has a larger 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED screen, making scrolling faster than the iPhone 16e, which has a non-existent camera bump.

Your choice starts with the ecosystem. If you want a smartphone to work well with your Mac, the iPhone 16e might be the default choice for you. The same goes for the Pixel 9a if you really want an Android phone.
