How to Fix Google Maps When the Start Button Is Missing

Akshita Pidiha

The Google Maps Start button may disappear due to outdated apps, location permission issues, or navigation settings, preventing turn-by-turn directions.

Make sure both the Google Maps app and your phone's operating system are updated to the latest version to avoid compatibility issues.

Enable precise location access and ensure GPS is turned on. Weak location signals can prevent navigation from starting correctly.

Confirm that you've selected a valid destination and travel mode (Driving, Walking, Cycling, or Transit) before expecting the Start button to appear.

If you're using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, disconnect and reconnect your phone, then reopen Google Maps to refresh navigation.

Clear the Google Maps cache on Android or reinstall the app on iPhone if the issue persists after restarting the device.

Disable battery optimization or background restrictions for Google Maps, as aggressive power-saving settings can interfere with navigation features.

Check your internet connection. While offline maps work for some routes, live navigation features perform best with a stable data connection.

If the problem continues, submit feedback through the Google Maps Help section, as temporary bugs are often fixed in future app updates.
