PlayStation ClassicGreat Consoles That Got Left Behind: Not every failed console was a bad console. Some introduced brilliant ideas, impressive hardware or unforgettable games, but poor timing, pricing, competition or marketing kept them from succeeding. Here are nine systems that deserved a better shot.

PlayStation Vita: Sony's PlayStation Vita packed dual analog sticks, a 960×544 OLED display, and touch controls into a powerful handheld, but it struggled against Nintendo's 3DS and sold an estimated 13 million units.

Sega Genesis Nomad: The Genesis Nomad brought an actual Sega Genesis experience to a handheld, supporting Genesis cartridges and even video output to a TV. Its 1995 launch came too late, when Sega had already moved toward the Saturn.

Sega Saturn: The Sega Saturn delivered impressive arcade ports and memorable games, but its $399 price, rushed launch and hardware disadvantages hurt its chances against the cheaper PlayStation.

Sega Dreamcast: The Dreamcast arrived with innovative games, strong arcade conversions and a competitive $199 price, but the arrival of the PlayStation 2 quickly overshadowed it. Its failure ultimately marked Sega's exit from console hardware.

Nintendo Wii U: Nintendo's Wii U introduced a distinctive tablet-like GamePad with a touchscreen, but confusing branding made some consumers mistake it for a Wii accessory. Delays and weak momentum further damaged the system.

Nintendo 64 DD: The 64DD promised expanded storage, online capabilities and ambitious software possibilities, but launched in Japan only in 1999, when the N64 was already nearing the end of its life.

Nokia N-Gage: Nokia's N-Gage attempted to combine a mobile phone with serious gaming hardware, offering impressive 3D ports for its time. But its awkward controls and vertically oriented screen made the device difficult to use.

PlayStation Classic: Sony's miniature PlayStation came loaded with 20 games, including classics such as Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII. But weak emulation and questionable PAL game choices prevented it from matching the success of Nintendo's mini consoles.
