Download and Set Up the Alexa App: Ensure you have the Amazon Alexa app installed on your smartphone (iOS or Android) and are signed in with your Amazon account
Enable Communications: Open the Alexa app, navigate to the 'Communicate' tab at the bottom, and follow the on-screen prompts to enable calling and messaging features
Verify Your Phone Number: During the communication setup, you'll need to enter and verify your mobile phone number. This links your Echo to your contacts
Sync Contacts: Allow the Alexa app to access your phone's contact list. This enables Alexa to recognize names for calling. Contacts who also use Alexa Calling will automatically appear
Voice Commands for Calling: To initiate a call, simply say, 'Alexa, call [contact name]' or 'Alexa, dial [phone number].' For specific numbers within a contact, say 'Alexa, call [contact name] mobile'
Receiving Calls: When someone calls your linked number, your Echo device will ring, and Alexa will announce who's calling. Say 'Alexa, answer call' or 'Alexa, dismiss call'
Types of Calls: You can make Alexa-to-Alexa calls (to other Echo devices or the Alexa app), and most mobile or landline numbers in supported regions (like the US, UK, Canada, Mexico)
Emergency Calls (with carrier linking): While standard Alexa calling doesn't support emergency services like 911, some mobile carriers (like T-Mobile) allow you to link your phone number to Alexa for this capability
Group Calls and Drop In: You can create calling groups in the Alexa app. Additionally, 'Drop In' allows instant two-way communication between your own Echo devices, or with approved contacts, acting like an intercom
