Bluetooth High Data Throughput (HDT)
Bluetooth HDT is a newly adopted enhancement for Bluetooth Low Energy that substantially increases wireless data capacity. It is designed to support faster, more reliable connections across consumer, commercial, and industrial devices.

Part of Bluetooth Core 7.0
HDT is an optional feature in the newly published Bluetooth Core 7.0 specification. It raises Bluetooth LE’s maximum supported bit rate from 2.5 Mbps to 7.5 Mbps, nearly quadrupling the available data rate.

Faster and More Reliable Transfers
The upgrade improves four key performance areas: data-transfer speed, capacity, energy efficiency, and connection reliability. This helps devices move more data while maintaining stable wireless links and reducing power demands.

Next-Generation LE Audio
A major use case is next-generation Bluetooth LE Audio. HDT provides the bandwidth needed for standardized lossless and high-resolution audio, as well as multichannel surround sound and spatial-audio experiences.

New Hardware Will Be Required
Current Bluetooth devices cannot gain HDT through a firmware or software update. Products will need new-generation Bluetooth chips designed for Core 7.0, with early supporting devices and audio products expected from 2027.

Beyond Headphones
HDT also supports immersive computing, AI-enabled devices, wearables, smart-home products, industrial systems, and other IoT applications. Its greater throughput and efficiency give developers more flexibility for data-heavy wireless products.
