The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has released its open-source GenAI model, Falcon 2, aiming to compete with big tech companies.

The Falcon 2 series includes two models: Falcon 2 11B for text and Falcon 2 11B VLM for generating descriptions from images.

The UAE, a major oil exporter and influential Middle East power, is making significant investments in artificial intelligence but has faced scrutiny from the US.

In 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT, leading to competition from companies like UAE's Falcon and Meta's Llama.

The UAE's AI firm G42 has divested stakes in Chinese companies before securing a $1.5 billion investment from Microsoft.
