Intel's CPU Sales Fall as AI Demand Soars

IndustryTrends

Intel reported US$12.9 billion in revenue in the second quarter, a 15% decrease from the previous year.

Gelsinger noted that the company's "near-term wallet share focus on AI accelerators" has diverted demand away from cloud computing CPUs.

However, that income stream is expected to return by Q4, with the CEO praising Intel's accelerated product portfolio.

Intel hopes to "democratise AI from cloud to enterprise, edge, and client" by developing an open ecosystem.

However, Gelsinger does not view the surge in AI accelerators as a significant threat to Intel's long-standing emphasis areas.
