Google's AI Product Fails to Impress Investors

IndustryTrends

Google's AI chatbot Bard made a factual error during its debut video, claiming that the James Webb Space Telescope took the first pictures of exoplanets.

The error was pointed out by astronomers and NASA, who confirmed that the first pictures of exoplanets were taken by the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in 2004.

Google said the error highlighted the need for rigorous testing and feedback, and that Bard's responses would be improved before a wider release.

Google's AI event in Paris also failed to impress investors, who expected more innovation and integration of AI into its search product.

Google's parent company Alphabet saw its shares drop by 7.7% on Wednesday and 4.4% on Thursday, losing about $163 billion in market value.
