Google Takes Action to Fix AI Picture Bot After Backlash

IndustryTrends

Google is working quickly to remedy its new AI-powered image-creation tool, which was accused of overcorrecting for the possibility of being racist.

Users said that the company's Gemini bot provided photos representing a range of genders and races, even when this was historically false.

The business stated that its tool was "missing the mark". "Gemini's AI image creation produces a diverse set of people. And this is typically a positive thing since people all around the world utilize it.

This isn't the first time AI has run into real-world diversity issues. Google, for example, was forced to apologize over a decade ago after labelling a photo of a black couple as "gorillas".

OpenAI, a rival AI business, was also accused of propagating negative stereotypes.
