Apple's Pegasus: A New Challenger for Google Search

IndustryTrends

Apple has been developing its own search engine, codenamed Pegasus, under the supervision of former Google executive John Giannandrea.

Pegasus is currently used in some of Apple's apps, such as Spotlight and Siri, and will soon power the search function in the App Store.

Pegasus is based on Apple's web crawler, Applebot, and uses generative AI to create relevant and personalized results for users.

Apple's search engine is seen as a potential competitor to Google, which pays Apple billions of dollars per year to be the default search engine on Safari.

Apple's search engine could also offer more privacy and security to users, as well as more integration with Apple's ecosystem of devices and services.
