AI Discovers Its First Supernova Without Human Intervention

IndustryTrends

A novel AI technique and a completely automated approach were used to discover, identify, and classify its first supernova.

Such technologies might relieve astronomers of the tedious labour, providing them with more time to create and test new ideas to explain the cosmos.

BTSbot is the name of the AI programme, and no, the researchers are not fans of the immensely successful South Korean boy band.

BTSBot is an abbreviation for Bright Transient Survey Bot, which was created by an international team of researchers led by Northwestern University.

Aside from speeding up the process of evaluating and identifying new supernovas, the bot may also be able to avoid human mistakes.
