A New Way to Measure the Speed of AI Models

IndustryTrends

A new benchmark test called MLPerf measures the speed of AI models on various hardware platforms, such as CPUs, GPUs, and TPUs.

The test is based on a large language model with 6 billion parameters that summarize CNN news articles.

It simulates the "inference" portion of AI data crunching, which powers the software behind generative AI tools.

The test results show that Nvidia's chip was the top performer, followed by Intel's chip. Google also previewed the performance of its custom-built chip.

The test aims to provide a standardized and objective way to compare the performance of different AI models and hardware.
